Setting the Record Straight
Sean Turner is running a dishonest, false campaign in a desperate attempt to trick voters at the last minute. A Mayor should be honest and transparent and hold the highest ethical standards. We can judge how Turner would govern by his dirty campaign. Sean Turner does not represent our Roanoke family values. Sean Turner is trying to bring the same cheap, dirty political trick they use in Dallas to Roanoke. No thanks!
Turner Lie #1
The Gierisch Family business purchased several easements from the city for $1. FALSE
In 2018, the City, in strict adherence to state law, returned about 50 unused alleyways in the older part of Roanoke to the property owners. In Giersch’s case, this resulted in about 30 feet of property. And here's the key point-there was no financial transaction involved. Giersch was one of the 50 properties, and the city simply didn't need the easement anymore. These easements were returned to the property tax rolls, demonstrating the city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Turner Lie #2
Does Turner really think anyone would buy 30 feet of property for over $1 million ever? Come on, get real. This is a completely outlandish lie.
Turner Lie #3
Turner claims backroom deals that never appear on the city agenda. FALSE
The conveyance of alleyway easements was on the agenda. It occurred in an open session at a properly called meeting, where the item was listed as an agenda item and discussed publicly. This discussion never occurred in an executive session or a “backroom.”
Turner did not source this claim on his untrue, negative mailer because he knows it’s a complete lie.
